Liverpool following their greatest run in the history of their champions league were favorites to beat Roma in the second leg of semifinal, especially after beating them 5-2 in the first leg at their home ground.
This second leg held at Stadio Olimpico which is home ground for football club Roma. People geared up for this fascinating encounter as they anticipated a fighting match between both the teams. Roma was under pressure as the suffered a heavy defeat in the first leg which made their chances very less to qualify for the final.
This is how the match unfolded in front of our eyes.
An early goal for Liverpool to start the proceedings:
Roma started the match in an excellent way; they attacked in a quick way to put pressure on Liverpool which was the right approach as they were behind in the overall aggregate. It was Liverpool, who against the run of the play scored the first goal as sadio mane scored in the 9th minute to give Liverpool lead of 1-0.
Own goal a blessing for Roma:
Roma looked desperate as the conceded another goal in the very start of second leg. The luck favored Roma and James Milner conceded an own goal which was totally unfortunate for Liverpool to make it 1-1 in the 15th minute of the match.
It was an own goal which came from a deflection and onto the head of Milner and into the back of the net. He never knew where the ball was as it was too unfortunate for Liverpool.
Liverpool with the Lead again:
It was a goal feast for sure as Liverpool came to the lead and scored another goal in the 25th minute of the match. Geroginio was the man who scored the second goal for Liverpool to give them advantage again.
Comeback from Roma that nearly took the semifinal to extra time but in vain:
After conceding the second goal it was all Roma till the end of the match. They made countless runs towards the Goals of Liverpool to open a door for themselves and they nearly did that successfully too.
Edin Dzeko scored in the 52th minute to make it 2-2 for the second leg. It was Radja who scored another goal in the 85th minute to make it 3-2 in the favor of Roma.
Roma were brilliant in the second half especially, they had 24 shots on goal in total in whole match and they had 6 on target shots from which the converted 4 as they scored another goal from penalty in the injury time with help of Radja again to make it 4-2.
In the end it was not enough for Roma as they lost to an aggregate of 6-7 to reach the final of champions league.
Wake up call for Liverpool:
It was a wakeup call for their defense as they were not good enough in the second leg of final. They are going to face Real Madrid in the finals of UCL 2018 and it promises to be an excellent encounter but Liverpool can’t afford such performance in that match.
